Artery Business
Committee's The Artery Business Committee Transportation Management Association (ABC TMA) has launched a telecommuting pilot program that will service a total of thirty-nine employees from three participating TMA member companies. With funding provided by the Massachusetts Highway Department's Transportation Demand Management (TDM) grant, the ABC TMA has developed educational and informational materials to facilitate the promotion of telecommuting, three TMA member companies are participating in the pilot. Employees selected from these companies were trained and equipment was installed to enable them to work from home one to two days a week beginning in mid-August. The goal of the Telecommuting Demonstration Program is to reduce single occupancy vehicle trips into the city, thereby lessening traffic congestion and fuel consumption. In addition, participating companies hope to create a better work/life balance for employees, and increase employee satisfaction and retention. It is estimated that this pilot will save 185,000 vehicle miles traveled annually. Participants will be tracked for a six-month period and will be evaluated on productivity, morale, and other issues to determine the viability of telecommuting at the participating companies. The ABC TMA hopes that the success of this pilot program will encourage the participating companies, as well as our other companies, to adopt formal telecommuting programs for all of their employees. For additional information on the tasks included in the pilot, please see the Scope of Services.
